I really didn’t know 진정 난 몰랐네

Kim Hee-gap  김희갑 님 was born in Pyong Yang in 1936 and as a teen came down to the south with his family during the war. Right after graduating from the high school in 1955, he started his career as guitarist at the US Army stage. Beginning as producer for the rock group Key Boys in 1964 he has written thousands of songs in his career as musician for five decades and produced series of monumental hit-songs that defined their time. The modern Korean music cannot be discussed without his presence. This song is one of those, being covered still by many renowned singers.

This song  진정 몰랐네’’-I really didn’t know- was released in 1970 and made a big hit with  the  voice of  Im Hee-sook, who is remembered for her voice that maintained power in the wide spectrum of notes. This song of her singing is a good example showing how a song can be different by the singing voice.

Lyrics---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The one that I loved so much has left me Only my heart weeps in flame

How could the one that I had trusted so much leave me

I didn’t know then, I really didn’t know

<repeat>

The sound of whistle someone blows, lest he should come for me

Lest he should come back, so vain is this heart that’s waiting

How could the one that I had trusted so much leave me

I didn’t know then, I really didn't know

He proved he was as good a singer as song-writer.

                                                                                                                          end.
