Between two lovers

 Between two lovers   그리운 사람끼리  _ Park In-hee // Analog K-Pop  No.2

Park In-Hee 박인희 in her twenties in 1970s

Park In-hee was born in Seoul in 1945. She majored in the French at Sookmyung Women's University and debuted in 1970 as member of the mixed duet "Toi et Moi" with Lee Pil-won, who discovered her voice and led the way to her career as musician. The duet  made a series of hits spearheading the new movement of the folk music in 1970s of Korea. She also wrote the songs. This song “between two lovers” is one of them, released in 1972.

            Lyrics---------------------------------------------------

Two people missing each other, hand in hand/ smiling at each other on the road

Ballons in their hand, love in their eye / the hearts full of longing for each other

Two people missing each other on the road, with their eyes closed /                whispering hob nob to each other

Young love streaming in the heart /  the road full of the longings

               ------------------------------------------------------

She was personally of a insular nature and she liked to meet the populace through the radio programs than on TV. Somehow s
he moved to LA in the height of her career in Korea. There she worked as DJ at the radio program for the Korean community for decades. She returned to Korea in 2016 at her age of 70 to quell the requests of her ardent fans and since then appeared in TV shows and concerts from time to time. She remains one of the living legends in the Korean popular music with her clear yet soulful voice that went with her personality of the long-forgotten purity of the long-gone dynasty. Following is from her concert in 2024. She was 79.

Winter Rain

This song titled "Winter Rain" by Jo Dong-jin is the first song for this corner to introduce the modern Korean songs before the age of what we know as K-Pop these days. I dubbed the Korean popular music before the K-pop as Analog K-pop because the rise of the current K-pop came with the arrival of the worldwide digital environment. One of the distinctive differences between K-pop and the music before it is that the soloist music used to be the mainstream while the group performance has been representing K-pop, perhaps because of the importance of the visual factor in the media now with the capability to deliver full high-definition images.

I chose this song for the inaugural for this section, not because of the quality of the song for its obvious distinction in atmosphere from that of the K-pop, but because of its universal feel of the past everybody misses when every thing used to be slow but ran deep.

This song was released in 1979.

That rainy winter night you left         to the other side of day and night where wind cannot reach

Underneath the night lights I ran in hurry, beating my heart was the sound of the bell from afar

That rainy winter night  you left    with the candles alight full of the room

I walked slowly on the night street and looked at the sky, cold on my forehead dropped the rain

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is known that the song was written at the news of his mother's passaway.

If you want to listen to the rock version of the song, you have the below by Jeon In-kwon.

Jeon was one of the admirers of Jo Dong-jin and was his personal friend.
